Athletics crush Tigers

Author: Ryan Sweeney finished 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI to help the Athletics defeat Detroit, 7-1, in the opener of a three- game series at the Coliseum.
Matt Holliday collected two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run for Oakland, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Mark Ellis added a two-run homer.
Brett Anderson (4-7) was charged with one run on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Michael Wuertz fanned four in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
