Husker Football Opponent Preview

2009 Husker Football Opponent Preview: Arkansas State

by Husker Mike

In Nebraska’s bid to win the Sun Belt Conference championship in 2009, Arkansas State stands to be the biggest challenge of them all. Florida Atlantic seems to be the team that Husker fans look most warily at, with a top 25 offense and a four year starter at quarterback. But frankly, I think Arkansas State is the best of Nebraska’s three Sun Belt foes.

The Red Wolves, who changed their mascot from the Indians last season, are lead by seniors Corey Leonard and Reggie Arnold on offense. Read more

Top ten fantasy Stanford football games

by Dave Fowkes

1. Michigan: A rematch of the 1972 Rose Bowl that Stanford won 13-12. Great marketing tie-in to the past, not to mention a game in the Big House would be fun.

2. Oklahoma: Anyone else remember John Elway and the Cardinal going into Norman, Oklahoma and whipping up on the Sooners 31-14? How much fun would it be to do the same to a Bob Stoops led team?

3. Tulane: Okay, for football reasons it might not be real attractive, but a road trip to New Orleans? Count me in!

4. Hawaii: See Tulane except rather than a weekend in the Big Easy, how about a week on the beach, with some football mixed in. Forget the home and home on this series, Stanford can travel.

Prognosis not clear from Rose’s announcement

basketball

By Ronnie Turner

The type of pancreatic cancer that BYU men’s basketball coach Dave Rose was diagnosed with is rare, typically with a longer life expectancy, but the prognosis and treatment options will depend on the disease’s stage.

This much is certain: Though pancreatic cancer is very bad, Rose has the best kind possible. Pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer generally progresses much slower than pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which accounts for about 85 percent of all pancreatic cancer cases.

Some American fans think New Jersey’s Giuseppe Rossi is soccer’s answer to Benedict Arnold.

Fans are upset that Rossi decided to go with his heritage instead of the country of his birth to play with the green, white and red of Italy rather than the red, white and blue of the USA.

Soccer is uniting South Africans

sasoccer

By Robyn Dixon

Reporting from Johannesburg, South Africa — When Emma Jordi’s mother suggested a Sunday afternoon at South Africa’s Confederations Cup watching the national soccer team play Iraq, the pretty blond 14-year-old had an excuse. Homework.

“I have to write a speech for English,” she said warily, more accustomed to riding her beautiful chestnut gelding, Spring Close Prince Dante, than spending rowdy afternoons at the soccer stadium, the air rent by the blasts of plastic trumpets called vuvuzelas that fans blow.

Time to look ahead for India in Twenty20 cricket

cricket

By Akshay Iyer

A lot has been said and written about India’s early exit from the Twenty20 World Cup, and there is no doubt that there will be plenty more of the same about how captain MS Dhoni’s tactical errors cost the team dear apart from the fact that the Men in Blue were affected by Virender Sehwag’s forced withdrawal because of injury as well as the fact that the bowling, fielding and batting departments didn’t click in unison through the tournament on a consistent basis.

Yes, it is indeed disappointing that India has failed to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Twenty20 World Cup, but let’s face it folks, it’s not the end of the world! And, remember this is the same team and captain who have been the toast of India for the last couple of seasons and one blip on the radar can’t possibly undo all the good work under Dhoni so far.

The Indian cricketers and support staff will undoubtedly have to lift themselves up from this disappointment and there is still a lot of cricket to be played before the next edition of the Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean in 10 months’ time. We list down a few important things that Team India needs to concentrate on not only in the run-up to the third edition of the T20 World Cup, but in general as well.
